So proud of my friend Charles Kukunda and his tireless dedication to the children of Uganda and his community. I first met Charles at Lake Bunyonyi when he was beginning to launch Kazira Orphans Project, and I'm so happy to see how far along the project has come. For all those interested in helping out in Uganda, please visit Kazira Orphaned Children and support those Ugandans who work hard to give back to their community and make sustainable community-based projects. School supplies, mosquito nets, and life jackets are all helpful.

Charles has been working very hard for a noble cause. We are proud of Charles and his continuous dedication. We met him at the inception of this project that only continues to be more beneficial to the community. However in order to reach its full potential and help the children, community and society as a whole by giving, we need to lend out a hand and contribute as much as we can. Any help helps!!! Thank you for your kindness. Tania, Volunteer for the project.

 The BATWA (PYGMIES)
Batwa “Pygmies”are one of the old-est peoples in Africa. They roamed the forests looking for
fruits and honey, and hunted with bows and trained dogs. As the woods were cut down by the
Bantu, Batwa numbers dwindled. In 1992 they were evicted from the national parks with
no compensation. Recently the authori-ties have shown more understanding and some progress has been made.

A vigorous hike will bring you to Bukoora Cave, a place of refuge during times of civil unrest and the site of a local shrine. Currently, local Ugandans visit the cave to rest and reflect. Along the way, you will enjoy spectacular views of Lake
Bunyonyi and will experience a little of the farmers' daily lives on the steep slopes above the lake. After having a rest at Kazira Orphanage, you can visit this cave and discover the secret.

 LAKE BUNYONYI
Lake Bunyonyi means a ("Place of many little birds") lies in south western Uganda between Kisoro and Kabale close to the border with Rwanda. Located at 1,962 m above sea level, it is about 25 km long and 7 km wide. The depth of the lake is rumored to vary between 44 m and 900 m, which if true would make the lake the second deepest in Africa. It is one of the few lakes in the region that is rumored to be free of bilharzia and safe for swimming, however, this claim is not verifiable and patrons of the lake have tested positive as recently as 2012. The lake appears on the 5,000 Ugandan shilling note under the title "Lake Bunyonyi and terraces".
Towns on its shores include Rutinda, Kyevu and Muko while its 29 islands include Punishment Island, Bushara Island and Leprosy Island. It is a popular location for waterspots and is known for the surrounding terraced hillsides. It is popular with both foreign and domestic tourists and there is a wide variety of tourist accommodation.
