Kazira orphans swimming program,
Lake bunyonyi is the deepest lake in Uganda and second in Africa after Lake Tanganyika.
Some children cross the lake to go to Kazira orphanage every day using dugout canoes which is very risky so thats why we introduced swimming program to help the community atleast to save their lives in case of anything, but we need to buy a motorboat for this project.

CLEAN WATER

In Uganda we still lack clean water and a number of children die every year due to lack of clean water to drink.

Water Crisis

No Clean Water!

Results from a recent study of current living conditions throughout Africa report that more than one billion people do not have enough clean water to provide for their basic human needs. As a result, more than 2,500 children are dying each day.
"When people are desperately thirsty," one official explained, "they are willing to take the risk of disease by consuming water that may not be healthy. For them - it's either risk infection or die from thirst! It is a horrible position to be in."
Unsafe drinking water can carry diseases such as malaria, trypanosomiasis, intestinal worm infections, dengue, and schistosomiasis - as well as bacteria that can lead to deadly diarrheal infections. "In some areas," the report continued, "the level of suffering and misery owing to the inadequacy of clean water is almost beyond comprehension judging by the number of pregnant women and children who suffer from deadly diarrheal diseases such as cholera and dysentery.
"These parasites and diseases feed on very young children and the elderly.They are the innocent and silent members of society... they have no one to be a voice for them."
"Entire villages and communities are being wiped out by diseases that are living in dirty water.Children are dying in huge numbers! For many people, these numbers are so big that they cannot begin to comprehend them - they are statistics! But imagine your own child dying . . . and then imagine if it happened to every child in your neighborhood school! That's when we start to understand how horrible the crisis is! These poor people desperately need our help! Kazira Orphand Project is looking for contributions that will be used to provide safe drinking water for men, women and children in Africa's neediest regions.

What can we do ... when it is too late?
So many people  in developed countries haven't been able to grasp the magnitude of the crisis facing African men, women and children, An entire continent of people are in dire need of food, clean water,education and affordable medicine. That's why we are making more emergency appeals for relief because this truly is a situation like the world has never seen before!
"It will only be too late for the children when we give up on them,". As soon as we do that, then they have little hope for survival. You see, many of the children have no where else to turn for help. They have so little food, clothing, medicine,education and more. . . they need us for everything. That's why I am desperately praying that the people  in the developed countries will understand how important they are to the survival of Uganda and  Africa as a whole. Without our help, there will be no Africa. Its life, its beauty, its children will eventually die. In so many ways, the future of Africa is in our hands!"

As hunger and disease claim more lives,
some ask if Africa can be saved

AFRICA - At the dawn of a new millennium, the continent that some say witnessed the birth of the first human civilizations -- may be dying. As widespread drought, starvation and the unchecked spread of deadly diseases continue -- the numbers of people dying on a daily basis throughout Africa is staggering.
In many parts of Africa, the production of food depends upon the intense manual labor of every family. When large areas of Africa are dislocated by war especially southern Sudan where a war of ethnic cleansing is being waged, or adults die from the scourge of AIDS, fields cannot be worked, and food cannot be produced. Many, especially women and children are forced to depend upon hand outs of food. Unpredictable weather can also aggravate the situation.
Starvation is claiming lives. One international relief agency recently discovered a village in a remote region of West Africa where more than 18,000 people were on the verge of starvation. "Malnutrition is so great in this area," a relief worker explained, "that most of the children under five years old had starved to death before we arrived. An entire hillside was covered with fresh graves of the children who had recently died."

THE OUT COME OF HIV/ AIDS IN AFRICA Children and young people whose parents have become infected with AIDS virus begin to suffer even before a parent or caregiver has died, the study goes on to say. Since children are unable to earn the same income as their parents, household income plummets. As a result, there is little money for food, clothing, medicine or other basic necessities. Education is interrupted and many children are forced to drop out to either care for a dying parent or go to work to earn money for others who may be too young. Children become depressed and feel alienated from their peers as well as from their families.
	Young boys and girls who are having to carry the burden of caring for their entire families eat less and sell whatever they can -- even if that includes themselves.
"Boys and girls who have been orphaned by AIDS are also stigmatized," explains Missionary of Africa,"They are known as children whose parents have died from socially embarrassing disease. Besides having had to witness their parents suffering and death, they are now poorer and less healthy than non-orphaned children. They will have a hard time focusing on their education and on life in general. They have been traumatized in ways that few of us will ever be able to understand. And because they are uneducated, they will be subjected to the worst forms of child labor and abuse."

SUB-SAHARAN AFRICA   With diseases such as AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis continuing to claim the lives of millions of Africa's poorest adults, millions more children are being left homeless and orphaned. "Africa needs more than one billion dollars each year to care for the millions of orphans on the continent," an official spokesman for the United Nations recently stated. "In less than five years," the official continued, "there will be more than 50 million orphans in just 16 of Africa's 53 countries." "Such a situation," an African Union spokesman explained, "will easily destabilize countries because these children are vulnerable and they can be exploited. Funds will be needed for education and healthcare, but we don't know at the moment where the money is coming from."
	As a result of the orphan crisis throughout much of the African continent, more than a billion dollars will be needed each year to care for the children.
"In the past, people used to care for the orphans and loved them," a woman whose husband recently died from disease explained. "But these days they are so many, and many people have died who could have assisted them, and therefore orphanhood is a common phenomenon, not strange. The few who are alive cannot support them." "The epidemic of diseases such as AIDS and malaria in sub- Saharan Africa has already orphaned a generation of children," explains Fr. John Lynch of the Missionaries of Africa. "Now it seems set to affect future generations." Official reports estimate that, at the moment, there are more than 34 million orphans in the region today and some 11 million of them have been orphaned by AIDS. Eight out of every 10 children in the world whose parents have died of AIDS live in sub-Saharan Africa. During the last decade, the proportion of children who are orphaned as a result of AIDS.

CARING

Kazira Orphanage rests upon the principle of provision, holding fast to the ideal that providing children with an education equips them to become the decision makers of tomorrow. Supplying students with a daily meal has become an important part of this program also, as children need nourishment in order to learn.

Since the beginning of Kazira Orphanage, many have contributed to the ongoing efforts to sustain the orphans and underprivileged children. Our goal is to continue fundraising efforts to build a permanent school and support the Orphan Feeding program, providing education, food and support for these children.
Currently, fundraising efforts are underway to construct a fully permanent school building for the Orphans at Kazira Orphans project headquarters.

CHANGE THE FUTURE OF A POOR CHILD

More than 2 million children in Africa are orphans, as a result of loosing Parents to the wrath of the dangerous killer diseases like AIDS, Malaria and many other infections. The lack of the basics in life has created hopelessness because of lack of money for food, Health care and Education.
Many children have been forced to the streets, others are living with harsh relatives who have shamelessly forced them into child labour, sexually abused them or married them off for the purposes of gaining bridal wealth. Some children are kicked out from homes over trivial matters that bring frustration, for example, the young girls who get pregnant while young.

Many young girls are acting "parents" to younger sisters and brothers whose parents have passed away, and they are easy targets for prostitution or rape!
Our project is extending this opportunity for you to help change the future of a poor child and grow the future generation.

We are looking for volunteers to assist us in the following programs over the January-December period. Will you be one of them?

Teach in Uganda: We need volunteers to teach in primary  school in Kabale western Uganda. This is an amazing opportunity to help create a loving, creative and interactive environment for Ugandan children to flourish.

Look after children in Uganda: We are looking for volunteers who can share their skills with children aged 3-8 at a daycare center and orphanage in Uganda. This program is for you if you love children and have some childcare experience or not.

Farming in Uganda: we need volunteers who can encourage the awareness of local plants and biodiversity, respect for the environment and the sustainable use of soil and water. It means the passing-on of knowledge from the old to the young and a reinforced spirit of collaboration. A garden, moreover, means guaranteeing a daily supply of fresh and healthy food to local communities, improving the quality of daily life and the development of local economies.

ORPHAN FEEDING PROGRAM

Please Help Us Feed the Orphans!

Have you seen all the need in the world and ever wondered how can I help? The Orphan Feeding Program may be the perfect way for you to do just that!
The Orphan Feeding Program was established in 2011 when children whose parents were victims of the HIV/AIDS epidemic were identified in the Kazira primary school in Kabale Uganda. Most were malnourished and unable to learn.
The response was to raise funds and establish a feeding program for the children. As a result, all of the orphaned children attending these three schools are now given a daily meal of porridge or rice and beans. For most orphans, that meal is their only one that day, and in many cases they bring the food home to share with the people they are staying with.
The cost for this feeding program is $3 per child per day, depending on the fluctuating cost of food in Uganda.  Since the inception of the program, hundreds of children have benefited from this daily provision of food.
